horseshoe crab
Large littoral arthropod found in North American, Gulf of Mexico, and Asian waters; has a hard carapace shaped like a horseshoe and a stiff tail. A living fossil, dated to around 400 million years ago.
Note that the horseshoe crab is not technically a crustacean.
