Kantai Collection's personification of the Yorktown-class aircraft carrier USS Hornet, hull number CV-8, the seventh ship in the US Navy bearing the name.

Hornet has long flowing blonde hair, grayish blue eyes, and a well-endowed figure. She wears a white dress shirt with a black necktie under a black bomber jacket, a black belt, a black pencil skirt, black pantyhose, and rudder footwear. Her damaged CG reveals that her dress shirt does not have sleeves.
Her rigging consists of bridge tower mounted on the right side of her body, while she carries on her left shoulder an extremely long flight deck-shaped weapon case. Like Saratoga and Intrepid, Hornet carries a firearm to launch her planes, in her case a modified M1903 Springfield with a pair of Quad 1.1 inch anti-aircraft guns in place of the rear sight.
Due to the history of the real Hornet, through the Battle of Midway and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, she has a relationship with Akigumo, Makigumo, and Shoukaku. The incident at Santa Cruz is referenced in shipgirl Hornet's sinking line as well as her 4:00 p.m. hourly where she is willing herself to model for the game's resident "manga artist."
