hoplite
"Hoplite" is a name of a unit of ancient Greek soldiers, who is equipped with the titular spear and a rounded shield known as Aspis in battle. They also carried a short sword known as Xiphos as a close-quarter weapon.
In classical arts, hoplites are usually depicted as being completely nude save for an armored helmet and a red cape. Though in reality, they are almost always seen wearing bronze or leather chest armor along with leather padding on their lower body.
