hms vanguard
The last battleship ever built by Britain. Designed as a "cheap" battleship utilizing the turrets of the Courageous-class battlecruisers when they were converted to carriers. Similar in design to the King Geroge V and the [unbuilt] Lion class battleships in many ways. Was completed too late for the way. She was most famous to taking the then princess Elizabeth to visit South Africa in 1947. Spent most of her years in reserve before being broken up in 1960. The idea behind of Vanguard's construction was to create a cheap, fast, fully armoured battlecruiser/fast battleship for use against Japanese heavy cruisers and modernized Kongou-class battlecruisers, for this role she would had been more than adequate but, ultimately, when compared to other last gen battleships like Richelieus or Iowas Vanguard comes off looking rather anemic in her armament.
