haori
A lightweight silk jacket worn over a kimono. Mostly worn by men, this jacket is at hip- or thigh-length.
There may be a decorative tie string called haori himo across the chest or the middle of the jacket.
Shinsengumi are identified by a light blue haori, with sleeves trimmed with white dandara-moyou (mountain stripes).
Not to be confused with kataginu, which more resembles a vest than a traditional jacket.
Often confused with happi, which has tube-sleeves, instead of kimono sleeves.
