graf zeppelin (aircraft carrier)

German aircraft carrier, name ship of the class (of which two were planned but not completed). Laid down in 1936, launched in 1938, never commissioned. Designed with similar armored protection to heavy cruisers and armed with guns capable of defending herself against night destroyer attacks (the 16 150mm/55 C28 in casemate mounts). Hulk was scuttled at the end of the war but was raised by the Russians, who towed her to USSR to be used as a target.
