globus cruciger
An orb topped with a cross, used for centuries as a symbol of Christ's dominion over the Earth and, by conscious extension, the divine right of kings. The best-known globus cruciger today is probably the English Sovereign's Orb, one of the signature pieces of the crown jewels of Britain, which was parodied by Monty Python as the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch in the 1975 comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
The Kantai Collection incarnation of the British battleship HMS Warspite carries a black iron globus cruciger as part of her rigging (with the cross in the form of a sword with a radar antenna attached to the pommel), presumably as a reference to the crown jewels (much as her mast is designed to resemble the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross).
The fashion brand Vivienne Westwood uses the globus cruciger as its logo and is feautured in many of its designs.
