A Willy Wonka-themed event named Willy’s Chocolate Experience that was held in Glasgow, Scotland in late February of 2024. It quickly went viral because it severely under-delivered on its promised attractions: photos and videos of the event showed a mostly bare warehouse with sparse, Wonka-themed decorations, and the organisers were caught using AI-generated promotional materials.
The actor's scripts, which were allegedly AI-generated as well, gave rise to an original character called the Unknown. There's also a widely-circulated photo of a disappointed actress in the role of an Oompa Loompa, standing in front of what looks like an illicit laboratory. Both of these characters have since gained memetic status as a result of the event's notoriety.
