ghost in the shell (2017)
A live action film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johannson as Mira Killian/Kusanagi Motoko and Kitano Takeshi as Aramaki Daisuke.
The movie faced some controversy and was accused of whitewashing by people of Asian origin living in the West (Asian Americans mostly) due to it's supposedly largely non-Asian cast, particularly with Johannson being chosen to play Motoko. However, Japanese interviews at the time revealed that many Japanese people did not consider it whitewashing as Mokoto is supposed to be a full body cyborg thus her external appearance could be of any ethnicity according to them, as well as because of the fact that in the first anime film adaptation of the manga from 1995 the character clearly looks like a caucasian woman.
