garter toss
A western wedding tradition which involves two parts. During the first part the bride sits on a chair and the groom then goes under her skirt to remove one of her garters either by hand or by tradition with his teeth. The second part is the garter toss, where the garter is then tossed to the bachelors attending the wedding. The bachelor who catches the garter is said to be the next person who'd become wed. The garter toss is the counterpart to the bride's bouquet toss.
