eclectus parrot
Latin: Eclectus roratus
A species of parrot with extreme color-based sexual dimorphism. Males have mostly bright emerald green plumage with red underwings while females are mostly bright red with a purple/blue belly and underparts.
Until the early 20th century the sexes were considered different species.
This parrot is native to the Solomon Islands, Sumba, New Guinea and nearby islands, northeastern Australia, and the Moluccas. There are nine subspecies, some of which feature yellow plumage and other variations.
