For tagging purposes this tag refers specifically to depictions of a coronavirus virion, in general a sphere with bulbous spikes (ex: post #3812854).

Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans they cause respiratory tract infections that can range from mild (common cold) to severe (SARS, MERS, COVID-19).

Coronaviruses gets their name from their appearance under an electron microscope, which appear reminiscent of a crown ("corona" in Latin) or solar corona.
