chiang kai-shek
A prominent leader of the Republic of China. After having led the country starting in 1928, he was defeated by Mao Zedong's communist forces in 1949, from then on serving as the leader of the government-in-exile on Taiwan until his death in 1975. Known for his charismatic leadership yet his inability suppress the widespread corruption within his country, which led to his eventual downfall on mainland China.
