cesario (racehorse)
Named after main character Viola's male alias in William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. A likely allusion to her sire's "Supreme Commander" nickname by way of Julius Caesar: this makes her "Little Caesar".
Japanese racehorse. Sired by Special Week and foaled by Kirov Premiere.
Cesario is the first Japanese horse to win in American soil since Haku Chikara in 1959 and the first Japanese winner of an American G1 at the 2005 American Oaks.
Although she was retired the next year, she was particularly successful as a broodmare, with 3 G1 winners: Epiphaneia (who became a successful sire in his own right), Leontes and Saturnalia.
