Benigno Simeon Aquino Jr., nicknamed "Ninoy" (November 27, 1932 - August 21, 1983) was a Filipino politician serving as a Senator of the Philippines from 1967 to 1972, a longtime opposition of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
He died on August 21, 1983 due to assassination. His death served as a catalyst for the People Power Revolution of February 1986 which led to Marcos' removal from power. The date of his assassination eventually became a commemorated holiday in the Philippines known as "Ninoy Aquino Day."
