anthropornis
Anthropornis ("man bird") is an extinct genus of giant penguin (Palaeeudyptinae) that existed from around the Lutetian stage of the Eocene epoch to the Rupelian stage of the Oligocene. Described from fossils found in the La Meseta Formation on Seymour Island off the Antarctic coast, they are some of the largest penguins ever known, having reached heights of up to 1.8 metres. The genus comprises two species:
- Anthropornis nordenskjoldi
- Anthropornis grandis
