american lunchbox
A rectangular metal or plastic lunchbox that was prevalent especially in North America and targeted toward school children. With the handle and latch at the top and a hinge at the bottom, you'd have to lay the lunchbox on its side when opening it. As these were typically targeted at children, they would frequently feature artwork on the sides. Many shows and movies as part of their merchandising would have such lunchboxes made featuring art and images of characters. Vintage metal lunchboxes with such promotional art are frequently a collectible item in North America.
