The International Business Machines Corp (IBM) is an American multinational technology corporation that is headquartered Armonk, New York, with operations in over 171 countries. It was founded in 1911 and produces and sells computer hardware, middleware and software, as well as hosting and consulting services. They're also a major research organization generating many patents every year.
IBM regularly spins-off or sells their various low margin divisions so they may focus on more profitable markets. The printer and imaging company Lexmark originated from IBM's former printer manufacturing division. IBM's personal computer division that produced their ThinkPad line was sold to Chinese company Lenovo.
