There were theories that it was just another regular rotation of the stars...If humans call it a disaster, then for non-humans it is the opposite.But youkai are also surprisingly forgetful about the old days.
I doubt a theoretical explanation would do much to calm them down.But in the end, comets continued to inspire terror...at least until the time that Gensokyo's great barrier was put up.
I don't know how things are now, of course.
