Pointless Pools

So the point is supposedly being extremely up-to-date, not showing what kind of art is generated by trying to be exaggeratedly up-to-date?

You mean something like post #669779, fanart made before revealing all the "details"?
If it's like that maybe it needs a new description or something.

Yes. Also how characters may be given personalities clearly different from the canon and later fanon due to very limited information on how they act and react in the manga/anime/games/whatever. Returning to such works years later might prove interesting.

That is how I understood the idea of the pool; if you had gotten it right, then I agree the pool is not very useful for Danbooru in the long run.

I don't think it's completely pointless (and I don't know where you're getting the alleged ecchi focus from), but it is poorly defined - and what's harder to fix is that it depends on information Danbooru doesn't have.

You could tighten the definition up easily enough to something like "pictures drawn within 24 hours of the subject first being announced" (just as a very rough example), but the problem is that Danbooru doesn't know (and in some cases it's impossible to check) when the original picture was first posted, and that's what qualifies an image for the pool. It might work as a private pool, with someone trustworthy verifying what got added, but it'd probably be a lot of work.

While it does cover the majority of the pool, there are a few exceptions, such as post #474169.

Okay, so add blush then. It's probably no more than a couple of posts anyway, and other tag searches can cover these.

The "Touhou - smth" wall of text in the "Add to Pool" drop-down menu is already huge, it's probably better if we keep it free from things that can be covered by one simple tag search 95% of the time.

Plus, although that's not a really solid argument on why that pool should go, a lot of posts in that pool already belong to the Charisma Break pool and the various ponjiyuusu series pools, which makes browsing with all the huge bars on top too damn annoying.

I've been cleaning up that drop down box by going through the pools methodically and unchecking the "Active Pool" box, but there are definitely a ton of pools out there. It's also a bit overwhelming to go through the hundreds of pools and trying to create a systematic way to name the pools and descriptions. Anyways, I guess I wouldn't mind if pool #1685 disappears.

At this point, I think that among other factors, if a pool hasn't been updated in 2 months it should be marked inactive. I'll just give the pools a go over and do that. Any objections?

*Edit*
pool #221 - covered easily by murakami_suigun + miko. Also, they should probably go into their specific F-ism.

Updated

pool #1877 - "armed and dangerous" - nothing touhou and weapon wouldn't cover. Looks like the beginnings of a favorites pool.

pool #1755 - "Conviently Placed Onsen Steam" - convenient_censoring + onsen

pool #1842 - "Narm" - Otherwise serious pictures that are ruined by unintentional hilarity. I'm a little unsure about this one... Plus, just one post.

pool #1374 - untouched pool.

pool #1535 - "Visually Enlightening" - sounds like a very subjective pool to me.
