Artist alias request thread

@Damian0358 why do you insist on deleting wrongfully merged artist entries instead of creating an alias when you certainly know the right way to do it and it isn't more work to do? It's getting annoying.

Because it's functionally identical. The vast majority of artists are not listed in a wiki or in saved searches, and don't have wikis either, so handling it manually gets the same amount of work done. Unless we're dealing with a particularly old artist entry/tag or particularly noteworthy one, even aliasing is unnecessary, just renaming is enough, and at that point, with all the facts in mind, doing it manually suffices, also giving opportunity to ensure the more prominent (generally older) artist entry history of the two is preserved. Per the guidelines in the OP for manually handling things, everything is in order. At least I don't orphan duplicate artist entries.

Don't manually move artists. We gave builders the ability to do it with BURs precisely because doing it manually has tons of downsides, like missing banned posts and not moving saved searches. You should never have any reason to move an artist tag manually.

We aren't talking about manually moving artists though, we're talking about cleaning up artist entries. Nameless finds it annoying that, after the daily tag report updates, I look under the nuked tags section and then manually clean-up those artist entries for artist tags that had been nuked that day per the guidelines listed in this thread's OP:

If you do delete an artist entry manually, always empty out the URLs and put the name of the new artist tag in the other names. This lets people know where the new artist is. The only thing in a deleted artist entry should be the name of the new artist. Never delete an artist entry without emptying out the URLs first (search).

I wasn't the one to manually move the artist. But Nameless still believes that, if I'm putting the effort to do clean-up, I should instead make a BUR aliasing the already moved artist and scolding the user who did the manual move to begin with.
