Thumbnails can be deceiving

Posted under General

This came up while discussing post #146057. If you look at the full picture, the quality of the lines is rather poor, making it not up to standard for danbooru; however, you can't see that from the thumbnail alone. Whoever approved it probably only looked at the thumbnail.
There are many other possible flaws that don't show up in thumbnails, such as JPEG artifacts, bad scan quality, limited resolution, and so on. When in doubt, it's better to look at the actual image.

Then why not browse at full view all the time? Though it would help if there was an option that would let you full-view browse only those pics that are unapproved.

I didn't see anything wrong with the pic besides it being not up to par with the ones professionally-made but that's just my standards talking.

FWIW, I don't find post #146057 particularly appalling. Sure, the hands are shaped somewhat incorrectly, but there are "professional" pics aplenty that are much less nice to look at, in particular any of the photoshop lensflare abominations. If you really want to raise standards, take care of those, I personally vote for post #146057 to stay.

I would have to agree here. I see nothing particulary wrong with this picture. It seems to have more of a hand drawn feel to it. I believe that some flaws may even intensify the experience of the drawing (as long as they don't go to overboard with it). I think it should stay.

I agree with hazuki and nthn, etc. It's not the best piece of art, but come on, it's NOT deletion worthy.

I try to be pretty open in what I approve. I didn't see this one in the queue, but I *would* have approved it if I did, even if I wouldn't necessarily rate it up, favorite it, or save it.

Oh, but I should address the main point of the thread too.

I agree, approval should always always be done by the full image. That's why I asked Albert for an approval button on the image page itself, which he generously provided, and it definitely helps things along.

It shouldn't be rated a 6 either.

It wouldn't be if it didn't get publicity through this thread. And besides, who are any of us to decide what a post "should" get beyond the vote we're responsible for (our own)? Who cares, really?

*Provided it's within the rules, obviously.

If someone wants to vote it up, sure, but that doesn't mean someone can't state discontent for it.

So go ahead and vote it down or something, the question isn't over whether we like it or dislike it, but whether it should even be on the site. i.e., why would it be singled out for deletion vs so many other images that aren't? And there's no particular reason why it would be.
