That's not what I said. That post should be tagged with piano, but not with keyboard_(instrument) since no keys are visible, while stuff like post #454560 should be tagged with keyboard_(instrument) but not with piano, since no distinct instrument is visible.

Also, "keyboard" in the context of an instrument refers to the place where the keys are located, while "keyboard instrument" is the term used to describe such an instrument as a whole. I'm not sure if "keyboard" is used like that colloquially though.

piano_print or piano_keys or something. I don't think we should throw out use of keyboard_(instrument) out for a few exceptions like that.

Oh, and what about synthesizer? Would it be safe to alias that to keyboard_(instrument) too?

Hold on. I did a run-through of the tag, and all of its posts seem to refer to an electric keyboard, with post #649921 being the sole exception. What should be done with this tag?

For now, though, I'll remove 'synthesizer' from the applicable posts and tag them with keyboard_(instrument) if that's OK.

Just piano keys by themselves, with no larger instrument should be tagged piano_keys, the instrument known as a keyboard should be tagged keyboard_(instrument), while pianos should be tagged piano. In the later two cases, if they keys themselves are visible, they should be tagged as piano_keys

One last issue: keyboard seems to implicate instrument, as seen here. I don't think that's quite right, since keyboard is a neutral tag now.

Also, any thoughts about what to do with synthesizer from my previous post?

Removed the implication and replaced with keyboard_(instrument) -> instrument

Not really, waiting to see if others chime in.

I'm definately against aliasing grand_piano with generic piano, as grand_piano is very specific and visually obvious.

I think tagging the keys separate from the keyboard as a whole is a bit much.

As for synthesizer, there is probably some technical difference that differentiates them from your everyday department-store Casio, probably involving sampling or some such, but synthesizer and keyboard are mostly synonymous in my mind.

I think the only difference is in the size of the instrument, and just how many different instruments it attempts to emulate.

If a bargain keyboard from Radio Shack can produce a tonal range of car horns, they're pretty much all synthesizers as far as I'm concerned.

I keep thinking of software synthesizers, of course, but I guess they don't make any difference to image tagging...

I've yet to see a software-based synthesizer on Danbooru (with the obvious exception of vocaloids, of course).
