Help- is this aqua or blue? It's giving me a headache

Posted under General

So i got into an disagreement in private with another approver on wherter this https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/7736400 is or isn't aqua, with them ending up saying basically just even though a color picker land both light (https://g.co/kgs/yrw4eHZ) and dark (https://g.co/kgs/kBN4pnc) parts of the clothing are between green and blue it is still a blue serafuku. They stated also that aqua is just the miku hair color basically, which i find really odd as dark aqua and light aqua does exist. Theyre called teal and aqua respectively, typically called cyan as a whole outside this website. Whats the point of having a color tag if it cant be used if its not exactly the same shade as mikus hair? Even then there are plenty of miku inages with a similar shade that are tagged as aqua https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/388639?q=hatsune_miku+aqua_hair++muted_color+. Baby blue and navy and both blue, why isnt turquoise and teal aqua?

That post isn't white or pink either.

Color pickers are fundamentally not compatible with any sort of non-flat shading (and even with flat shading, the "official" color names will not line up nicely with what Danbooru uses), you have to look at factors such as lighting and surroundings, factors which sometimes introduce some hints of different shades. These shouldn't be used to categorize the entire outfit, that just doesn't make sense.

Generally, I use aqua tags when the tint is about as blue as it is green. If it looks blue to me, but then I look at again and it appears green the next time, I can be pretty confident that aqua would apply. That’s exactly what I’m seeing in post #7736400 (without using a color picker), so I think tagging it as aqua serafuku is appropriate in this case.

Aqua; the clothing is in natural lighting, so all parts of it except maybe the left underbust are clearly a dark aqua to me. It reminds me of the turquoise Mazda Familia cars from the 90s, down to the crystalline texturing.

Neither tagger is wrong, so seeking consensus with posts like this one to determine which tags should stick is good.

Pretty sure it counts as aqua, both for the same reasons given by other users, and because it's not gonna be a mistag in either blue nor aqua, it's fine to have both tags. It really doesn't have to be this controversial
I believe Turquoise and Teal should be tagged as aqua on danbooru, otherwise nothing is

It looks closer to blue to me, though I can see the aqua.
Is there any reason why we can't keep both tags in contentious cases like this? If a color is somewhere on the verge between two hues, I would not want to miss the post in either an aqua_* or blue_* search. Seems silly to let disagreements over subjective color perception override utility.
