These terms are interchangeable and are clearly used interchangeably.

I don't agree with this at all. Something like https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/7788525 is an entirely different thing from https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/8387505. All this alias would do is make it harder for people looking for a specific fetish.

Same, there are some overlap for sure but a playful ass smack is not the same as spanking someone.

I think this one makes more sense, ass smack is spanking but its a particular niche subset with one slap instead of protracted slaps.

Something like post #7788525 is definitely not spanking. (same example that blindVigil used earlier didn't even realize it) If you'd want this implication to go through you'd need to create a separate tag for playful ass slaps. This is probably more a case of a tag requiring gardening than anything else.
