nuke pink_weapon

Posted under Tags

'cause no one's searching for them, it's tag bloat. More pointless tags on an image that can be better spent describing the type of weapon or something else far more critical about the post than the colour of the weapon. Weapons may be an integral or focal part of a design or image but that doesn't justify abusing them with colour tags that no one is going to be looking for. The search statistics for those will be on the floor and then we'll see a nuke BUR in a few months.

A tag to describe a cutesy or unique type of weapon - which in this case came out to be pink weapon - makes a bit more sense because of how common pink is used as a weapon colour to portray cuteness. Anything beyond that is beyond dumb to taggers and searchers.

deprecate pink_weapon

As GabrielWB said, not all pink weapons are cute weapons. It would be better to rename these individually rather than through a BUR.

Alternatively, someone can make a favgroup of intentionally cute weapons and propose a mass update BUR for those posts.

The tagging is mostly on point and can be fixed with a little bit of tag cleaning. No point to throw out this effort and redo it, especially since 90% of the tag is focused on one character who does hold a cute weapon.

create alias pink_weapon -> cutesy_weapon

Alternative naming suggestion, because some seemed reluctant for the practical subjectivity of "cute" (which i agree with)

I think there is a difference between a pink and cute/cutesy weapon. While pink is stereotypical girly/feminine, it's not necessarily also cutesy.

Can we get another look at this? post #8549340 is really making me wish we had this tag especially since it seems like most of us agreed with this concept.

So your problem is that you have a cute weapon but it's not pink. (If not all cute weapons are pink, consider perhaps not all pink weapons are cute).

Is there a reason why you can't just tag post #8549340 with cute weapon ?

Go, make a tag.

Down the road it can get renamed, removed if it's not working, pooled if we can't agree what a cute weapon is (are the Cardcaptors magical girl wands cute weapons?) etc, but why not get started now?

What GreyOmega said. Does everything become cutesy after a pink coat of paint? If you want to get rid of pink_weapon, deprecation would be a better route than an alias.

Of all the examples, only post #7377297 would I say it doesn't apply to. The nail bat with the blood in particular really drives home the exact juxtaposition I think this tag should represent.

Edit: for clarity, I think it would still apply to the first two because the entire color theme of the characters and the images as a whole still screams "pink", instead of a weapon that just happens to be made from something purple/pink. That said, I'd still prefer a rename instead of an alias so the alias doesn't give the impression that it always applies when the color is pink.

I don't. I'm on the side that thinks the concept deserves a tag.
Of course the discussion has been had about the "not all pink weapons are cute either" part and it is fair, but we gotta start somewhere, since discussion had slowed down to a crawl and the only active BUR was for nuking the tag instead of deprecating it and letting a cleanup happen to save the concept.
The alias doesn't have to stay permanently
