That looks pretty handy for identifying characters when unsure if they're original or belong in a copyright.

Actually, tagme and/or artist_request are for that; however, tagme is abused and thought to be a lazy way out of properly tagging images. I've even seen contributors uploading something with characters, artist, and tagme, and no other tags (shame on them)

A fair number of those contributors do actually go back and add more tags later. It's just how they do things. (I am not in agreement or disagreement with this method, for the record.)
