Should Non-humanoid Characters get Character Count Tags?

Let me start by saying I agree with Knowledge Seeker that we should have counter tags for some nonhumanoid characters. I think counter tags should be applied to any character that is heavily anthropomorphized in the work, meaning it has significant human traits. Examples of what I'm talking about are post #7793152, post #7815227 and post #7539148.

Hello Kitty and the Kongs are furry, so they already qualified for gender count tags long before this thread was created. As for the MLP animals, it sets a precedent for other copyrights that I'm not too happy with. People will see them being tagged with gender counters, and start tagging things like wolf Holo or Godzilla or the fucking Shrek dragon with genders.

The only time it should ever be acceptable to tag animals with gender counters is for stuff like bestiality. Without it, it's difficult to search with any granularity within those posts, and since they're blacklisted by default, the vast majority of users aren't ever going to see it no matter what they search for.

What about: tag humans and humanoids + some franchise exceptions, like tag MLP (people already do that).

Not anthro pokemon can be tagged with male_pokemon, female_pokemon (no counter). This sounds very redundant, and people will mass mistag it because of its name, but something similar could work.

I checked a ton of ein_(cowboy_bebop) pictures, and noone tagged ein as a boy, ever. Even I didn't do that, for post #7480782.

All the cases you are describing are mistagging, we do not apply charcounters to non-humanoid characters, nor is it deisrable to make random exceptions for franchises like MLP.

Mistagging against danbooru guidelines? No. Mistagging against current danbooru practices? Also no. I feel there are some unwritten first principles that I am unaware of tho. Oh, well.

Some things.
- I've browsed my_little_pony no_humans, and people don't change gender counters. They don't add or remove them. That's kinda nice.
- my_little_pony characters are sentient act like humans(edited) in the show, and very close to be bipedal. E.g. post #7797352 has 2 bipedal ponies, the rest are four legged. I think the unwritten danbooru rules suggest furry_female 2girls for it?
- existing characters can be tagged according to canon, and probably they should be tagged according to canon. If mlp characters are anthropomorphized/humanoid enough, then all of them should be girls, and if they are not, then all should be animals, regardless of if they are bipedal on the picture
- no_humans tag has a stupid name, which goes against its description, and its intended usage
- no_humans actual usage goes against its description, e.g. no_humans say that

anything else that looks or acts human (i.e. humanoids).

while my_little_pony no_humans is full of ponies that act like humans.

The whole thing seems to be a mess for me rn.

Most of the mistags will be left in place because not many people garden then, there's better boorus for this content. No, we don't want to see a horse, however sentient they may be, show up when searching 2girls, such tagging is reserved for MLP boorus.

also something should be done about that the if_they_mated kids lack the original copytag, but they are still somehow characters, and are gender counted.

I don't think you understand how the character counters work if you don't think children should be counted but animals and inanimate objects should.

It doesn't matter if they are canon or not, if Saber is fighting a random unamed male soldier it's 1girl 1boy. The fact that its not a real character in the series doesn't matter. The counters aren't to count character tags it's to count subjects of the image.
