chocobo are more akin to animals than a same-looking race of creatures. Even ignoring fat chocobo, alpha_(ff14), and other named chocobos, games like FFXIV offer the ability to color and customize chocobos, so they can look very different from each other and this should be treated as a gentag rather than a chartag.

Should we then make a chocobo costume tag to replace chocobo (cosplay)?

BUR #28104 has been rejected.

rename chocobo_(cosplay) -> animal_costume

This should take care of it.

Either that or chocobo_(costume), since we have a couple tags with _(costume) qualifiers for occasions like this.

Is there a particular reason the "species" of chocobo isn't a character when pokemon are? Or is it just because of custimization? (I'm not familiar with the franchise I just know there's Pokemon with a load of forms too).

There's a million different breeds, shapes and forms of chocobos. Even across different games they look very different. Compare post #7823167 and post #6860673.
