When marking posts as "md5 mismatch"

Posted under General

... should I be making a comment on the post with the hashes from Danbooru and the source? I see this on some posts but not others, and I recall some wiki page saying that it's a good idea or something. I guess my question is, how strict should I be about making a comment with the pair of hashes when applying md5 mismatch?

like the wiki says, the tag is added automatically by a bot, I wouldn't manually add it.

I don't think it's automatically added to any sources other than Pixiv at the moment, so adding md5 mismatch when you spot one is a good idea.

That's probably the only posts I've been applying it to - ones from pixiv. Should I stop?
Also, the original question, should I make a comment comparing the assets? (sorry if that sounded rude)

The posts this user was adding MD5 mismatch to are all from Pixiv and are also several years old.

Edit: Sniped. I'd wait for input from those knowledgeable about how this works before continuing, preferably a mod or an admin. If a tag is automatically added by a bot, it's usually best to not add it yourself.

alright.

Although md5 mismatch is added by a bot, it doesn't mean you shouldn't add it yourself if there are actual differences in the file you're looking at. You don't need to make any comment in addition to adding the tag either. The bot is only there to make it easier to catch these but it isn't fast nor does it catch all instances, even on Pixiv. I've had to add it myself in several cases.

If md5 mismatch applies to the post you're looking at and it's not already there, please add it. It also helps with some Danbooru-helper userscripts such as the Pixiv one which highlights bad revisions in yellow to stop people from uploading worse-quality images or in purple if there's a revision available that hasn't been uploaded or checked yet.
