Polyamory tag?

Posted under Tags

So I was looking at yuri, and wondered what an image like https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/6495522 should be tagged with? A couple carries the insinuation of two consenting partners, and I'd love a way to view more of these polyamourous pictures, regardless of orientation or specific amount of partners.

But what about fff_threesome (and other threesome tags)?? Well that implicates threesome. Which is defined as "A threesome is any is any sex act involving exactly three participants at the same time." on danbooru. There's no sex in an image like https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/7358164
There would obviously be overlap in a polyamory tag with threesome and orgy and what else, but this seems like such a clear missing tag.

And no, this isnt just harem , and it is defined as 3 or more characters showing affection towards one individual. Affection in these images and many more are with only 2 characters showing affection, and the affection can also be not singularly focused on one single person in the situation.

I've only used yuri as examples here but there's plenty hetero and yaoi examples: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/7029195, https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/6754747

There is a polygamy tag. I don't know how this differs from harem.

It was decided that harem will be limited to three characters towards one individual on topic #6731 12 years ago. I wouldn't be opposed to lowering this to two characters.

Polyamory would differ from harem in that a harem has multiple persons all showing affection towards one other person, but in a polyamory situation each member of the group shows affection towards every other member. To say it short and blunt, it is "all these girls love this one lucky dude" vs "more than two people in a romantic relationship with each other".

polygamy (and its non-existing counterpart polyandry) are specifically gendered and therefore only applicable in situations where the group has either 1 male or 1 female member. If there is a polyamorous group of say 2 guys and 2 girls all together, is that polygamy? There are 2 "wives" after all, but also 2 "husbands" so is it polyandry too? Furthermore, these two tags are meh to me in that they are both describing the situation in the picture ("a polyamorous group with 2+ male/female members") as well as canon tagging ("they are spouses").

I can see that in reality polygamy is not used exclusively for spouses, but that is what the wiki page says...

So I guess we could
1) Add a polyamory tag (and either leave polygamy alone, or update it to not be spouse-exclusive);
2) Rework polygamy and polyandry into gender specific tags for this (maybe still implicating a polyamory tag for people who want to search both and for tagging polyamorous situations with others)
3) Just call it all harem, even if it is not clear whose harem it is
4) Do something else entirely? Please add your own ideas and opinions!

You're mistaking polygamy ("many spouses") with polygyny ("many women"). The former is not in fact gendered.

I think we should have a polyamory tag, and leave polygamy for cases where more than two characters are shown explicitely married to each other (e.g. post #2977242). There's no need to have polygyny or polyandry as tags because those are already covered by tags like wife and wife and wife or Husband and wives.

The current polygamy tag is very often being used (incorrectly, technically) to tag polyamory (>2 characters all being romantic towards each other, with no suggestion of being married, e.g. post #6114118).

My suggestion would be to alias polygamy to polyamory, and just rewrite the wiki. We don't really need a polygamy tag if we already have wife and wife and wife etc.

It shouldn't be amalgamated with harem, which is multiple characters all attracted to one character, but not each other.

You're right, I should have double-checked those. Thanks for the correction, I learned something today :)

I think maybe I didn't write clearly, I apologize.
I'm not saying that polyamory shouldn't qualify for sex posts. I think it absolutely should be on sex posts, in the same way that couple should be on sex posts where two people are shown to be romantically involved.
As other people in this thread have mentioned, if this BUR goes through the wiki page for polygamy/polyamory should be edited to reflect the change.
