Grouping all non traditional halos together.

I think I'm going to make a tentative fav group for "traditional_halo" at the end of this week unless any new posts come up that sway me. Maybe someone else wouldnt mind doing one for nontraditional. I've I think the solution here is both tags should exist.

We all (mostly) agree on what these are so the best solution is fav groups.

Also I dont think the BURs in OP are good since materials can come in various shapes. Let's swap them out for stuff like triangle_halo and whatnot but leave stuff like mechanical_halo unimplied.

A halo made out of strange material is definitely non traditional, the only exception being fake halos.

As Myr mentioned, a nontraditional_halo tag would have so much overlap that such a proposal would get rejected. The same argument was used to shut down nontraditional_nun in topic #23543, resulting in the creation of traditional nun instead.

Basically, blame Blue Archive as the reason why nontraditional_halo will never be made. If you wanted such a tag, it should've been made before Blue Archive was ever conceived.

Forgive me, but I think that is an incredibly dumb way to look at this. Non-Blue Archive halos may "only" make up 25% of the tag, but they are still about 50000 artworks.

Agreed, it's no small number and having a single copyright on its own being a reason to not make a tag like this doesn't make sense to me. If it had existed before, I doubt we'd be talking about nuking it in favor of a traditional halo tag.

+1 to traditional_halo. From the perspective of someone trying to find classic golden ring halos, it's a simple matter of ease of use. Searching for halo -nontraditional_halo will include every post that should have but never did get tagged with nontraditional_halo, while simultaneously being more annoying (albeit only slightly) than a very basic traditional_halo search.

Also, someone mentioned earlier that the color shouldn't matter for traditional_halo; I strongly disagree with this. There's nothing "traditional" about someone sporting, say, a green glowing ring above their head. If I'm searching for traditional_halo and I'm finding some flavor of the month gacha/vtuber girl with a pink-and-black striped halo, then I'm not going to be happy.

I understand, though I'm in the any color camp because I think something like post #2645950 is very much a traditional halo just in black. For me the real problem is stuff like post #7476252 where if you didn't tell me it was a halo I wouldn't have tagged it as such.

I think narrowing down acceptable colors is getting into too niche territory. My biggest concern with this topic is being able to find simple, circular halos. Saying https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/6670101 doesn't count because the halo is pink and not gold just seems silly to me.

Besides, yellow halo + traditional halo, ideally, is a search anyone can perform if colo is really that bothersome. I don't want to see halos that are traditional in all but color become nigh impossible to search for, so leeway has to be given on that at least. I just don't want to see things like triangle halo or mechanical halo or whatever else Blue Archive girls tend to sport in a search for traditional halo.

So, is the general concensus here that we should create traditional halo and leave non-traditional halos as just in the halo tag a la the situation with traditional nun and the regular nun tag? Because that's where this conversation seems to be going in to me.

Not as just in the halo tag, but also in their own specific halo tags if possible, so halo continues being the only catch all tag imo.

Obviously. I apologize, I just meant "we do nothing more than what we're already doing with those" in saying that.

I'm strongly in favor of creating traditional halo and neutral on the creation of nontraditional halo.

A "traditional" halo is a gold ring floating above one's head. If someone's playing Drawful and they get tasked with drawing a halo, you can bet pretty much anything it'll be yellow because that's traditionally the color of a halo. Calling something like post #7412284 a traditional halo is absurd.

If you want a tag specifically for basic, ring-shaped halos, then ring_halo is a much better name for it.

Forgive me, but halos ARE rings, and it seems ridiclous to tag the default shape as ring_halo instead of traditional regardless of color plus it doesn't line up as nicely with our other Traditional vs. Nontraditional tagging.

I would not consider that rainbow one to fall in line with the theoretical traditional despite being a ring.

Given the discussion we're having I'm inclined to say the working definition should be.

• Small ring floating above character, narrower than the head.
• Ambiguous material, ie no rope, chain, leaf ect.
• Any color as long as it fits above parameters.

I do agree with Zapdos' reasoning; all these Blue Archive fantasy colored halos we have now have nothing to do with biblical halos and don't fit that traditional outlook.

However, this is also an anime image board and not a Christian bible study, so I think fighting to keep the prospective traditional halo from being used on anything but the most classical interpretation would be both impractical given the prevalence of Blue Archive, and less useless useful than a tag that focuses on ring shape only.

This entire discussion was built off the idea of separating fantastical halos like most Blue Archive characters have from simple, standard ring-shaped halos, because regardless of color they're what you think of first when thinking of halos. Like zetsubousensei said, halos are rings; Ring halo is on par with white dove in terms of needless redundancy, because halos are rings by default. Even Blue Archive halos have a roughly circular shape.

If you want a tag for gold halos, then make a tag for gold halos. Yellow halo already exists, and if you want one for halos that literally look like they're made of gold, then make golden halo.
