1boy,2boys,1girl,2girls, etc. tags

I know it's gonna be ridiculous to be even saying this, but I always found it weird that for a picture containing, for example, 3 male characters, we use 3boys for it on some post.
Why are we not using something more accurate like 3males, 2females,5males,1male,1female...
Girl and boy are terms used for people who are younger and thus tags such as 1boy do not accurately apply to characters who are mature males for example.

I thought someone has already asked this, but couldn't find a forum topic similar to this so I made one myself.
Now, should we really consider aliasing 1boy -> 1male, 1girl -> 1female etc?

It's a legacy thing. That's how the tags were named over a decade ago, and now if we wanted to change them it'd take days of server churn to do anything about, purely for an aesthetic difference.
