I'm not sure what's going on with these Vaans, but the current BURs look wrong to me. The Vaan that is being tagged just vaan is one of the main characters of final_fantasy_xii (not XI). I've never heard of any Vaan in final_fantasy_xi (but I know very little about that game in general). Most of the posts under vaan_(ff11) are deleted, most of the remaining ones are ancient and portray some goofy guy in a helmet, the most recent one looks like a mistag.
If anything, the current vaan tag should be renamed vaan_(ff12).

I think it was one of the artists' character in the game, it was a MMORPG after all and we can see in the image that the character is an Elvaan named ヴァッヴァン and nicknamed ヴぁーん.
EDIT: Found it. Looks like he was a meme character like Buront.

This is what seems to be the consensus here. Vaan is currently for the FF12 character, but we also have Vaan (FF11) for the helmet guy and elvaan.
