metatag for official downloadable materials?

Posted under Tags

Occasionally I would stumble upon second-parties who are very generous and decides to release official materials through a download package, providing far higher quality copies of an artwork. I think giving this kind of source a tag can be beneficial. Also, should this kind of source have the webpage where the downloadable package is found as the source or non-web source or both?

And slightly off topic but given that these packages usually come with every version of a variant set, it can quickly exceed the standard quantity, especially expression variants that aren't as interesting for most people. Which or how many variants should be uploaded?

EDIT: I don't see value in a tag for this nor any issue with posting expression variants.

You're missing the point. It's not "issue with posting expression variants", it's "issue with posting too many expression variants". Unless you're suggesting you're okay with me posting the entirety of an 100+ expression variant set? Alright then.

Some values for having such a tag imo are that it can help users a) look for official/high quality materials, b) look for unposted materials potentially available in the original pack (like titles, logos, 3d models or 100 variants that I'm not gonna post here), c) know which companies have the reputation of releasing such materials. We already have a couple of metatags to describe the kind of source, I don't see why this can't be one of them.

If that's the case, some users sure would be angry with the amount of posts. I don't have a problem with archiving variants but that's my opinion, let the admins decide if there's a limit.

That's more useful to be mentioned in the copyright's wiki for me. I guess something along the lines of official package using the page the pack was found as the source could work.

EDIT: I didn't know the tags below existed, nice.

zip available, and download link when the source itself is the package from which you found the image. The former should maybe be aliased to archive available or archive file available, and the latter is a small, low-information tag that sees misuse, so feel free to change it to an *_available-type tag like the one you're proposing, with fewer restrictions than what's current.

I would not include the word "official" in the tag name because it'd be implicit or even misleading.
