Equine

BUR #24196 has been rejected.

create implication pegasus -> mythological_equine
create implication unicorn -> mythological_equine
create implication winged_unicorn -> mythological_equine
create implication mythological_equine -> equine
create implication horse -> equine
create implication donkey -> equine
create implication pony_(animal) -> equine
create implication zebra -> equine

Collecting all of these.

As I'm not too into the terminology I wasn't too sure whether to use equine or equid. Looking up the difference leads to a marketing site saying equine is only for horses while the wikipedia page points to "equine" being the proper name for everything in equus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equus_(genus) including zebras and asses and a dictionary presents it as being mostly used for horses but also including donkeys/asses and zebras.

I decided against implying unicorn, pegasus etc to horse as people looking up the tag might want actual irl horses and people might draw zebra unicorns and such. Either implying them to "equine" or going with the "mythological equine" approach of e621 seems the best solution.

Also this should include mule but there is not enough posts.

And if people don't want the "mythological" qualifier.

We arent e621.

This BUR won't work anyway though for the same reason implying specific species of birds and fish to the broad fish and bird tag won't. There are a ton of images in the tag that aren't actually animals. post #310105 post #7098783 post #6817858 post #6319409

Don't hate the idea of finding a way to put both pony and horse in the same search though, as far as I know those are basically the same thing just with ponies being smaller.

And as for having an umbrella tag for mythological ones? for the reasons above it can't just be horse or mythological horse unless you want to risk inaccuracy, and when you already have that implied to equine why not the rest.

It's the "imply banana -> berry" again.
Equine just isn't a good tag because it's only used in scientific speech. That'S not a good approach to a tagging system that is commonly understood.

Equine is a commonly known word. It would either be that or equid unless you want to risk thinks like winged zebras being tagged as horses.

I still don't see a point in a broad magical equine umbrella tag if its going to have stuff like pool toys in it. post #6671088 post #6007120 post #2892242

And I'm not sure on the second point? We already have a broad range of mythological being covered they arent polluting the horse or unicorn tags qilin_(mythology), kelpie, and sleipnir_(mythology) come to mind.
I note that youve added unicorn to Rapidash posts are you envisioning fictional depictions of horses to fall under this tag? If so the similarly fake blitzle is tagged as zebra so it wont even properly filter for "real" animals, not to mention furry and kemonomimi.

I don't quite understand what you mean? Were talking about tagging unicorns so I don't quite know what you mean with filtering real animals, seperating pokemon?

There's no specific animal tags implying the animal tag, so what's stopping us from having umbrella tags for species falling under the same genus? If a live animal were present, then you'd tag animal, no? If you wanted posts referencing frogs but didn't want the animal itself, you'd search frog -animal, no?

Not here to advocate for either side, I just noticed the subject of animal not having implications hasn't been discussed.
