Keychain Implications

Posted under Tags

BUR #23217 has been rejected.

create implication animal_keychain -> keychain
create implication character_keychain -> keychain
create implication rabbit_keychain -> animal_keychain

Some types of keychain tags we have that are missing at least the basic keychain tag implication. Dunno about anything else, but we need at least keychain, that I am sure of.

We also have heart-shaped keychain, carrot keychain, and bone keychain, but those aren't populated enough for implications.

Oh? I must confess, I wasn't aware of charm (object) being a tag that existed. If a difference matters, keychains require a small chain and a keyring compared to charm (object). But I don't know how much that justifies the existence of keychain and its related tags in light of learning of charm (object). I always knew those as keychain, and to be perfectly honest I don't think the requirement of the chain and keyring would matter to someone searching either tag.

So in light of that...Yeah, it's safe to say this BUR's a bit of a bust in light of this. Should I go ahead and ask for an alias then?

BUR #23761 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

create alias keychain -> charm_(object)
create alias character_keychain -> character_charm
create alias animal_keychain -> animal_charm
create alias rabbit_keychain -> rabbit_charm
create alias heart-shaped_keychain -> heart-shaped_charm
create alias carrot_keychain -> carrot_charm
create alias bone_keychain -> bone_charm

Alrighty, sounds good. To be perfectly honest, I would prefer the aliases going the other way, but I think that's just because I'm more used to keychain than charm_(object), so whatever.

I also had the idea that keychain could possibly be left out in favor of using it only for when a chain and keyring are visible on a charm, but I think that'd sound like a bit of a pain to maintain. But I'd still like to possibly propose the idea to see what others say.

I also prefer keychain over charm (object). Keychain is less ambiguous than charm, which despite having a qualifier, can still be confused with pendant, the first few results in a "charm item" google search suggests they're used for necklaces and bracelets instead of the way it's used here. And the only place I think I've heard of charm is from toy ads and DIY kits for little girls, so charm has a more toy connotation in my mind compare to keychain which I've always known and used as a generic term.

The thing about keychains is that they are extremely versatile and found on a lot of things, like as bag charms or on certain kinds of phones. In fact, I don't think I ever heard the term bag charm be used to describe them compared to keychain (and I most often encounter keychains on bags over keyrings actually). Hence why learning we used charm (object) instead kinda blindsided me.

My point isn't that they're different (they're really not). Just kinda not really sure how to feel about the terminology, as someone who is much more exposed to "keychains" as the term for it over "charms". Not to mention, as Magcolo points out, keychain is rather less obtuse than "charm" in my opinion. I would honestly prefer the alias be flipped, but Idk how people would feel about that (much less if I could convince you on this for that matter).
