Are squeans and sleep bubbles the same thing?

Posted under Tags

Upon going through a few posts, I notice the distinction isn't quite that clear.

It seems traditionally squean refers to the dashed circles used to indicate drunkenness like in post #7048073, but bubbles can be used to indicate drunkenness as well (post #7088540, post #7106929), and these would also be called squeans.

But the dashes and bubbles can also be used to indicate sleepiness (post #7096694, post #6721984) so there seems to be an overlap where both dashes and bubbles can be used to mean both sleepiness and drunkenness or other states, which leads me back to the alias request.

I understand the wish to keep them separate, but the two tags right now are used interchangeably. If you open squeans and sleep bubble side by side it's impossible to tell them apart. I've also seen "squeans" used to refer to both bubbles and the radiating lines.

It's also not always bubbles or lines - sometimes it's things like post #7269450 that look more like clouds or flowers.

One thing to keep in mind is that the difference is not that important: the lines are usually just stand-in for popping bubbles (see post #7265615 for an example of what this means).
