None of these races have anything visually similar between them, they don't need an umbrella tag. Think about it this way: Superman is an alien too, should we start tagging him as such?

This is one of the countless tags that would be great... if only people magically used it properly.

If I want to search for some new, real alien posts (Xenomorphs, Headcrabs, some Star Wars characters/species, various OCs as a few examples) without knowing their copyrights or chartags I'd be out of luck after your proposed change.

There are loads of similar tags that are diluted by unrelated garbage that either fits only technically or canonically, deprecating (and then possibly nuking) them doesn't seem like the solution, though gardening them is a Sisyphean effort, since people will keep mistagging. Off the top of my head, dragon_girl is a good example of this - loads of mistags, canon tagging, v-tubers being some of the largest offenders.

I suggest aliasing it to stereotypical alien and clean the tag to fit it.

i thought about that, but i still think people would put xenomorphs and metroids into that tag without noticing, grey alien is a specific stereotype

Unfortunately Greys are sometimes green. Is there any way to say Gray alien without making it sound like a colour tag?

the other big name for them is little green men but its basically only being used for shimmy's spell card
alternative option is just aliasing green_alien -> grey_alien

any issues with this? any tag that can somehow include kirby, piccolo, kyubey, xenomorphs, olimar, hoshimaru, lum, tau, ultraman, metroid (creature)s, astral (yu-gi-oh!), roger (american dad), starfire, and keroro shouldnt exist in my view

Because there's no better alternative to search for actual aliens. It's one of those tags that are half shit, half content that is otherwise unsearchable.

When a tag is half shit, it's all shit in the end. "half content that is otherwise unsearchable" is untrue, at least with the word "otherwise" because they're still essentially unsearchable. Even if deprecation isn't the answer, there's bound to be some kind of answer.

id rather the deprecate go through to stem the bleeding while grey_alien gets populated
