Rename and deprecate fume

Posted under Tags

BUR #19283 has been rejected.

create alias fume -> fuming_(expression)
remove alias fume -> fuming_(expression)
deprecate fume

The name is quite unintuitive and ambiguous and as a result the tag is often mistagged on posts with fumes coming out from potions and the sort by people who don't read wikis instead of the intended "fuming with anger" expression.

The problem is that "fuming" in the real world is an euphemism for being very angry, but this tag is not for the generic expression or emotion, it's for a character "literally" fuming because of it.

What's being tagged here is the symbols in post #6610556 or post #6460972 (overlap with =3) or post #6524218. I don't think renaming the tag to fuming (expression) will stop the mistags, if anything it'll cause an entirely different type of problem.

Guilty as charged, but I would keep fume for literal smoke and vapor fumes.

BUR #20189 has been rejected.

create alias fume -> fume_cloud
remove alias fume -> fume_cloud
deprecate fume

Consider that sweatdrop is used for the large comical sweatdrop most often seen in anime while sweat is used for people that are actually sweating. We could use a similar system for these emotional fumes.

I was thinking we could create a fumes tag, which would more strongly imply the type coming from potions and the like than fume would. I suggest using this new tag only for fumes that can't be tagged as smoke or steam.

Edit: Rejecting because fume is now depreciated. Also, I did not know we had a =3 tag, but it makes fume cloud redundant.

I'd say fumes rather than fume cloud (eg, smoke pillars) and have smoke be a possibly example of that rather than mutually exclusive.

It's not an either/or situation. Fume cloud and fumes would be for two entirely different concepts. Read the wikis for the two tags I linked to in the first sentence in my BUR. Fume cloud would be analogous to sweatdrop. Fumes would be analogous to sweat.

I suggested keeping fumes separate from smoke and steam because while smoke is technically an example of a fume, I believe it may be more useful to treat miscellaneous fumes as their own category for filtering purposes. We already do that with some tags. For example, we consider topless and topless male to be mutually exclusive so users looking for topless women don't have to wade through posts of topless men and vice-versa. I'll defer to more experienced users on whether keeping fumes and smoke separate is the best choice.

I think steaming_body is enough for the non-expression version of fuming. Or you could come up with another variant of steaming for nonsexual; steaming with anger, steaming with rage etc.

Would never use fuming to refer to graphical fuming

Edit: The correct tag for nonsexual steaming bodies is almost always head steam, per the fume wiki.
