It is essentially the Russian derivative (adopted in 1910) of the original British Maxim machine gun (adopted since 1886). No distinct visual differences other than calibre and an optional metal shield. Despite Girls' Frontline character naming.
Despite its heavy weight and large size, Maxim gun should only imply machine gun instead of heavy machine gun because it fires regular full-power rifle cartridge (i.e. 7.62×54mmR).
This feels like having multiple tags for same gun model, just because the country differs. It's like having L1A1, StG58 for only FN FAL.
