Dragona Joestar's Gender

Posted under General

From what I'm seeing, Dragona Joestar from The JOJOLands is tagged as male from what I assume is from their brother Jodio referring to them as "big brother". However, the wiki also notes that they use feminine first-person pronouns. And Dragona very clearly looks like a girl. Since their gender isn't confirmed yet, should we tag them as "other" until we get official confirmation from Araki Hirohiko?

We don't know what they identify as for now, but in my opinion, based on past reference (such as some artist's OCs that were identified by the artist as male, but had the appearance of someone who'd we tag newhalf, being tagged with 1girl/futanari tags), Dragona's canon appearance should be tagged as female.
The whole 1boy/male with breasts ordeal was getting sort of silly, not gonna lie.

Worth noting that even Namine Ritsu is canonically gender-ambiguous, as the creator initially established them as an otoko no ko, but later said the fans could decide whether they are a man or a trans woman. post #682012 and children shows the various common fan interpretations. Still, the most canon-esque explanation is that the breasts aren't real.

Also, to add another data point to the Dragona Joestar discussion, their Pixiv wiki page clearly describes them as a newhalf and transgender, but notes the gender identity debate among overseas fans.

I'm pretty sure Dragona is always refered to as being male. Jodio calls him brother, Dragona never calls himself female, and everyone else considers him a dude too. He's an old-fashioned transvestite if anything, though in terms of tagging it's very awkward to have a male who is 100% undistinguishable from a female, even in terms of breasts. Tagging him as a boy almost goes against TWYS, but tagging him as a girl would be disregarding canon and labeling him as some kind of futa.

This is not really correct. Dragona uses the feminine pronoun ใ‚ใŸใ— to refer to themself. Dragona is also initially identified as a woman by the police officer in chapter 1, and is said to use "cosmetic injections" to grow breasts.
