Machine pistol implications

The term machine pistol refers to self-loading handguns that has capability of fully-automatic fire, with fire selector or not. It also refers to short-barrelled compact submachine gun with its ergonomics similar to handguns, for instance magazine position is integral within the grip instead of being separate like normal SMGs.

If we wanted to be completely accurate, machine pistol should imply submachine gun too, but I can't imagine anyone is looking for post #5866600 when they're searching for SMGs.

I don't understand why we have machine pistol at all to be honest, when it's used for completely different-looking things ranging from post #5866600 to post #5850450. I'd rather the weapons that look like pistols get implicated to handgun, and the ones that look like SMGs get implicated to submachine gun.

I think the term should be depreciated instead if that's the case. The line between a Machine Pistol and (compact) Submachine gun can be extremely blurry. I do not expect the majority of users to be able to differentiate Machine pistols like the Glock 18 and Skorpion from Submachine guns like the Mp7 or Uzi. Especially when knowledge of those weapons will usually come from video games like Call of Duty or Battlefield where the G18 is a HG but the TMP is a SMG.

Why don't they just search for the weapon name instead? I am sorry if requested more accurate implications. I was just trying to make tags more usefully meaningful.

I don't think it's a good idea to deprecate useful tags that represents a specific type of object. Blurry? That's like saying how blurry the line between serafuku and sailor dress is. Even not all machine pistols are not simply shorter submachine guns. Few of them are modified semi-auto handgun designs, like the Beretta 93R.
By this logic, we didn't request skirt suit to be deprecated, despite some look like pencil skirt.

Serafuku = skirt + sailor-collared shirt (also a school uniform). Sailor dress = sailor collar + shirt. Skirt suit = suit - pants + skirt. Pencil skirt = specific kind of skirt.

In any case, do we seriously even need tags for gun models at all? Types should be enough, I think.
