We're still using his name from Demon's Souls.

What should we do with Mild Mannered Pate meanwhile? From checking online, he appears to be Dark Souls 2's incarnation of Patches, named differently due to the game being handled by Tomohiro Shibuya, not Hidetaka Miyazaki. Pate's Pixpedia entry even has a little digression section at the end noting how Pate can be used as a nickname for Patches.

Pate is a different character with no canon relation to Patches and should be left as is.
