About dog, mixed breed is named "dog" ingame

But are they supposed to be the same character? Artists seem to treat them as separate, and we tag them separately, too. I don't think we should be implying them if no one else is treating them as the same character.

Are different dogs, but with different races
One is Dog with shiba inu species and the other is mixed breed species

both share the same name ingame and the japanese kanji is the "alias"

Can verify the same National Geographics help for add the correct names of every animal in the game, like lophorina

I can't find anything that suggests they're the same character, they just happen to share a name. I can't agree with implicating them, it doesn't seem very useful to anybody.

Even the KemoFri 3 promo videos treat them as separate:
Dog (Shiba Inu)
Dog (Mongrel) or "Mixed Breed", if you prefer
Dog (Siberian Husky)

And the in-game UI:
Dog (Shiba Inu)
Dog (Mongrel)
Dog (Siberian Husky)

All different seiyuus too. Game status screens also have the qualifiers.

Of course, the English text is the same, "Dog", which might be the source of the misconception for people who can't read the Japanese text. And in other KF subseries where there is only "one dog" (for that subseries) they also drop the qualifier within said subseries. But they are still clearly different characters, with different character designs, different ways of speaking and voiced by different seiyuu.

Those are just alternate common names for the real-life animals. The Greater Lophorina is also known as the Superb Bird-of-Paradise, the Habu as the Okinawa(n) Habu (when needed to differentiate from other habus), and the Pallas's the Manul. The names we currently have in use are as real and correct as the others, and are the ones currently used by the English KemoFri fanbase (e.g. Japari-Library, Fandom). They also align with Wikipedia's preferred names (used in the article titles), which was probably why those translations were picked in the first place. These names are also, IIRC, more common among English-speaking zoologists and other English-speaking people who study or talk about those specific exotic animals. Which is also why those specific names are picked by Wikipedia.

I see no reason to rename those tags to (slightly) more obscure names because all it does is make it harder for people to find them.

Edit: Hmm, checked PVs for KF3, they're using Superb Bird-of-Paradise (with the hyphens), Okinawa Habu and Manul as the EN 'translations' on the characters' splash intros. I suppose if we need to, we can go for aliases (not renames) from these names to our current ones. This will allow people to tag and search for them under their old names. The old names for these three should still be the primary tag names because that's what they are listed at under the various English-language KF wikias. If the new KF3 names become more commonly used, we can reverse the direction of the aliases in the future. If they aren't used, then they will be automatically removed after some time.

Updated

Apparently even wikipedia refers to them as Birds-of-paradise, with the hyphen. I dug a bit and found that they moved the article back in 2010 in accordance with the name used by the IOC World Bird List and Handbook of Birds of the World. So yes, it appears the correct name has the hyphens in it.

I removed the dog implication from the BUR because we should not be implicating two chartags together if they belong to different characters and fixed the bird-of-paradise tag name.

The habu's name is "Okinawa Habu", however the Pallas' Cat's profile still says "Pallas's Cat", so I've removed that too. Lemme know if you have updated sources about its name.

For now I'll approve aliases for the bird and habu.

The August 2020 character intro PV uses "Manul". Not exactly sure which one is more up to date, though I think it's probably the one on the Gamerch fanwiki KF profile screenshot you posted (with "Pallas's cat") because it was last updated on May 31 2021.
