Though I get your point here, this feels like a non-issue to some degree, as you can not only have the tag for the gun included in the T-Doll's wiki (and thus have it suggested), but also much of the fanart drawn for the T-Doll may or may not include the gun to begin with, as in contrast to other gacha games of this style, in-universe they aren't beholden to the gun. They may get upgrades that make them super proficient with the gun, but otherwise can use other guns too. Both the spinoff Neural Cloud and the sequel Girls Frontline 2 even do away with the in-universe G&K-enforced codenames derived from the guns, using actual names instead (and for some T-Dolls, revealing their actual/original names for the first time).
Though you might assume that "Type Number" equals Japanese, both the Chinese and the Japanese adopted the use of "type" akin to "mark" or "model" in the 1920s. The Japanese server doesn't distinguish it either, it just uses "95式" or "97式" as the Chinese servers do. Additionally, we already use "Type Number" for several Chinese guns (either because that's how they are referred to as in English, or because of Girls' Frontline introducing those guns to Danbooru), such as the Type 03 (which would also be a QBZ), the Type 56 and its Carbine variant, the Type 59, the Type 63, the Type 64, the Type 79, the Type 80, the Type 81, the Type 88, the Hanyang Type 88, the Type 92, and the Type 97 Shotgun. The outlier here would be the QBU-88, which is also referred to as a Type 88, but they call the doll wielding the gun that too, so that's fine. Given this wider context, having QBZ-95 and QBZ-97 isn't intuitive tagging-wise for the T-Dolls at all. (And before you ask, on the Japanese side we have the Type 4, the Type 62, the Howa Type 64, the Howa Type 89, and the Type 100)
Additionally, my points from above on mentioning the relevant gun tag in each wiki, which the newly-dubbed Type 95 and Type 97 wikis would already have, and the frequent irrelevance in fanart. If need be though, you could always just alias the "type" names to the regular gun tags.
There's plenty of gun nuts in the GFL fanbase, no matter English or Chinese, and while they may use different names for plenty of these guns, they've all largely accepted the names used in-game, only eschewing them if it is too tedious (such as referring to M950A by the gun manufacturer's name, Calico; and even then, M950A will be used because that's what the game uses).

I had something more... verbose typed up earlier, though it seemed to have been swallowed up without posting (had connection issues then too).

Anyhow, overall I was confused by Ares and Garm, because the first wikis I looked up had them listed under their 'old' name, on the left side of the alias. (Steyr Scout too, along with a screenshot-looking image showing it spelled with "Steyr". But we're going to retain that, so it's moot.) And looking up some of the other names had people using both variants, confusing me further.

With that said, for any new aliases, if it agrees with two (commonly-used) wiki sources that can be easily searched up (e.g. IOP and Gamepress), I see no reason to object.

(Though I might not necessarily actively support those changes either, especially if it involves cutting off a descriptor from the right side of the name, leaving only a letter + number combination behind.)

Chinese military hardware generally consistently use ”式“ to indicate the year of adaptation or manufacture. Quite similar to a lot of European naming schemes, which also use numbers for a similar purpose paired with an additional acronym in the front indicating the manufacturer/designer/weapon type (e.g. "Gewehr" for the German Gs) for further disambiguation.

Japanese military hardware, meanwhile... use 「式」for a confusing mishmash of model/mark number (like US does with M paired with a number) and year of adaptation or manufacture. Where year can be a year in the Gregorian calendar, the Showa calendar, or Taisho, or... the middle two digits of the Gregorian year (yeaaaaaah, sigh). This makes Japanese "Type Number" names extra confusing to decipher, so in a lot of cases they need to be paired with an additional descriptor to clarify what weapon or vehicle it is.

The Chinese also have a common three-letter type designation for most of their newer military hardware. This system is very intuitive, letting people know whether said hardware is a vehicle or a gun (etc), as well as the specific type of vehicle or gun (etc). ZTZ-99, for example, immediately tells me that it is a Chinese MBT (Zhuangjia, Tanke, Zhuzhan, Armored (Vehicle), Tank, Main Battle) introduced in the Year 1999, all within three letters and two numbers.

So, something like QBZ-95 immediately tells me two important things:
1. It's a Chinese assault rifle. (Qingwuqi, Buqiang, Zidong, Small arms, rifle, automatic)
2. It's manufactured/adapted in the year 95.

Meanwhile if I see something like Type 95:
1. Uh... it's probably some kind of Japanese military hardware?
2. Maybe it's a Model 95 of something?
3. Maybe it's manufactured/adapted in 1995?
4. ...

So it's rather confusing, and it will take some time before I think "Chinese gun".

So, when the QBZ (or QBU, ZTZ, PGZ, other TLDs etc.) military designation is available, I feel that is far more superior "name" than just sticking to "Type Number", because it encodes far more information in an intuitive, disambiguating manner. Superior, of course, for generic guntags, and not necessarily for their GFL android 'equivalents' (in which case I'll defer to you).

Though, yes, most of the older Chinese guns don't have the TLD-Number designation, because they haven't came up with the system yet. That said, most of those guns tend to be re-designated foreign imports or local clones of foreign designs.

My BUR should be ready to go, if there are no objections. I can change/separate/remove some of them if there is concern about specific ones. I also wouldn't mind adding some extra aliases for some of them if there is interest, especially in the case where the English names are signficantly different (e.g. MAC-10/Ingram or Howa Type 64/64 Shiki).

Also as a side note about the QBZ/Type tags, that's a case of using the real gun names for the tags instead of the characters. All servers and community resources use the "Type" naming for those two characters (Type95/Type97).

And I guess this is the crux of the issue. And why I was so confused earlier. I don't really play the game, so most of the time I have to rely on wikis to check and confirm names. If someone proposes a BUR to change a GFL character name, my instinct is to look online to see how it's usually spelled. And if Wiki 1 says one thing, Wiki 2 says another, and the community on Reddit and other forums use a mix of bunch of different spellings (with gun type descriptor, without descriptor, with gun manufacturer, without, hyphen, space, etc), I'm just going to vote down for the BUR. I'm not going to install and update the game (or sift through the game files) just to confirm how it is spelled.

I could take your word on it, and I also believe you are trustworthy, but if the proposed changes don't seem to align with how the community appear to be spelling the name (which to me as a semi-outsider means checking the wikis and forums), I will also question why the BUR is necessary in the first place, and hence vote down on the BUR (e.g. the Ares case).

So in a way, perhaps this is like what I mentioned earlier, GFL isn't quite like other fanbases. Because the names of real-life guns are involved, people use all sorts of different naming conventions, even among the dedicated fanbase (read: wikis).

create alias girls_frontline_neural_cloud -> girls'_frontline_neural_cloud

Main game tag has the alias (it was predecessor to the current with apostrophe) and it also eases up the search, I was confused as to why it the search doesn't list the other game tags under girls_frontline then I realized that it has an apostrophe

Also haven't done this before so if I'm doing it wrong let me know
