Seems like it gets mistagged a lot, maybe the "sentient" qualifier being in the tag name would help?

I think it might need an evaluation on its wiki definition. From the broadest sense of "tag what you see", it would be intuitive to tag every post with Suwako's hat with pyonta. However, that would flood the tag with nothing but Moriya Suwako since she's barely drawn without her hat.

Isn't that what we already do with Youmu's ghost? The only difference is that Pyonta is fanon.
Judging by tags, there's around 12k images where Youmu is without her ghost (almost half of all her images.) I could be wrong, but I can't imagine Suwako being without her hat in a comparable amount.

Maybe a better way to use the tag would be "don't use the tag when Pyonta is clearly just a hat"?
Also, imo Kogasa's umbrella should be tagged like Youmu's hitodama.

Sounds a good starting point for a revised usage rule, but I think it needs some clarification. Pyonta's eyes could be looking in another direction while still acting like a normal hat.

Let's be real, you could write anything you want in the wiki and it still it wouldn't change how it's used by one bit. If the tag is called "pyonta" then users will tag pyonta whenever it appears no matter how it's depicted.
Character tag "pyonta", general tag "sentient pyonta"?

Pyonta isn't a character unless it's 'sentient' though. Other way around, maybe?
Edit:
Personally I would prefer char:pyonta for when the hat acts as a semi-independent 'character' (can move, make expressions, does an impression of The Thing, implied to be sentient/sapient etc.), and general:pyonta_(hat) for when it's just an object. No implications, in case one gets a Pyonta that no longer looks like its original hat self.
Though I'm not averse to char:sentient_pyonta and general:pyonta if this is less likely to lead to mistaggings.
Updated
BUR #5554 has been rejected.
category pyonta -> general
category independent_pyonta -> character
Pyonta is currently a character tag and gets tagged despite being an inanimate hat despite the wiki definition. Moving that tag to general will keep any current tags for it as a hat despite not being mutually exclusive from the new tag independent_pyonta. Independent_pyonta will be changed to the correct tag for when pyonta shows signs of independent sentience as its own character. Hopefully the "independent" in the tag plus the fact "pyonta" will have a general tag will curb any further tagging inconsistency.

You don't need a BUR to change categories for small (e.g. one post) tags. Also I don't think "independent" is the greatest name for it. And oh boy another meaningless gentag without a qualifier
Sorry, didn't know how/if it was possible for me to make character tags. Also, I chose "independent" because I figured people may tag "sentient_pyonta" just because its eyes made an expression.

You can prefix "char:" when adding a tag for it to auto-categorize it as character. Also works with "meta:", "art:", "copy:". For tags that already exist, you can go to the tags page and search for one, click edit, and change the category. Limit is 50 posts for regular users and 1k posts for builder+, I believe, above which a BUR would be required.

Ah, thanks

Would "Living Pyonta" work better?
Think that would probably still run into the problem of its eyes moving getting it tagged. Personally, I feel that Pyonta just having the same expression that Suwako does in a picture feels more like it's part of Suwako's character than Pyonta being its own
