Catura/Shatola (Granblue Fantasy)

Posted under Tags

Since the Juutenshu/Eternals and some of the other oddball localization renames like Vampy/Vania and Shirou/Nicholas all use their Japanese names on Danbooru with their English names being aliases, I think we should standardize the Twelve Generals to follow suit.

I think Granblue is one of the copyrights where people prefer using english names over japanese. I can't say i've ever heard the name "Shatola".

It's mostly the case for newer characters or lesser-known characters, major older characters have a tendency to be referred to by their Japanese names (the Eternals are split, most people know Vampy, but more people know Malinda rather than Beth, etc). If you go tell a player to go put Uno (Anre) in the team, they'll likely know who you mean, but if you tell them to put Badb Catha (Morrigna) in your team, they'll probably just give you a blank look.

With that said, in this case it doesn't help that Catura is the usual romanization of 招杜羅, which is what her JP name is derived from. (Examples here: https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8D%81%E4%BA%8C%E8%97%A5%E5%8F%89%E5%A4%A7%E5%B0%87 )

I don't know enough about Granblue Fantasy to have an opinion, but we should have some kind of coherent system here.

You approved an alias of the English name to the Japanese name when we have several Japanese to English aliases. I don't know the copyright, but it's clear that someone is going to need to go through and clean up aliases like this. Especially since the BUR explanation immediately demonstrates that they're not consistent.

Googling "granblue shatola" results in no official links to the character in question, only boorus and an ancient reddit post.

Shatora would find a bit more (non-official, but forum/reddit/etc ones), since that's what most people wrote if they didn't know the official english name. With that in mind, though, it's a minority since all the recent characters (as in, last few years) have had their EN names released at the same time.
