Imply Translated to Check Translation

create implication check_translation -> translated

A translated text, even if badly translated, is a translated text. As such, it should appear in translated searches.

Wouldn't this make posts with both partially_translated and check_translation tagged as translated as well?

To be honest i don't understand why partially_translated doesn't count as translated either. I can see a point being made for regular users who can't look up a copyright translated -partially_translated search though.

I don't think it's good put translated and translation request on the same image. IMO translated should only be used on images that are "fully" translated, which makes more sense to me.
For the same reason we don't or shouldn't use commentary request and commentary on one image.

I think translated should be reserved for posts where all important text has been translated to English and either the translator is confident in the correctness of the translation or it has been checked by someone else. Otherwise we would need some other tag for such posts to enable searching for translations that can be expected to be complete and correct.

This got heavily downvoted but I don't entirely disagree with it.

Check translation is the middle ground between translated and translation request. It could reasonably imply either one. It comes down to whether you want the translated tag to include only 100% complete translations, or to include all translations, even not 100% complete ones.

If all you care about is finding posts that are readable to some degree (which I think is all most casual users care about), then you want translated to include check translation. Otherwise you have to search ~translated ~check_translation ~partially_translated to find all posts that are readable. Most people either don't know how to do searches like this, or would never think of it. Even if you do know how, actually typing out ~translated ~check_translation is pretty inconvenient.

If check translation implies translated, then it's still possible to find only 100% complete translations, you just have to do translated -check_translation instead of translated. "But that's harder," you say. Yes, but making people do ~translated ~check_translation is also inconvenient.

It's a question of whether you should have to search translated to find all translations, then do translated -check_translation to find only 100% complete translations, or search translated to find only 100% complete translations, then do ~translated ~check_translation to find all translations.

A lot of these check translation posts will never be moved to translated because nobody's paying attention to the tag or cleaning it up. So not implying check translation to translated effectively means we have a bunch of almost-100%-translated posts that will never be found by normal people who just browse translated and don't care if a translation isn't 100% perfect.

I don't disagree with this BUR either, only reason I voted 'Meh' was that this would increase the potential Meta tags on a post by one.
Personally I don't like when there are bunch of tags under Meta like "chinese_commentary, mixed-language_commentary, english_commentary, absurdres, highres, translation_request, check_translation, partially_translated, partial_commentary", can't really find what I'm looking there in that mess.

But only other way other than having
check_translation implies translated
partially_translated implies translated
is having a 'Has Translation' post info that will change according to tags or something similar.

I think Partially Translated should be marked as Translated if minor things are left out/the general meaning can be understood. So for example, if all the dialogue has been translated, but it lacks sound effect translations, it should be marked as Translated + Partially Translated.

Agreed.

In my opinion the sound effects should never figure into the translation status of an image, with the one possible exception of unconventional SFX (pool #1537). If this causes people heartburn, then feel free to populate and maintain a similar set of SFX tags... or not.
