Ouija and Kokkuri-san

Posted under General

These are both very similar games and have players put their fingers on an object that glides over a board/sheet with characters written on it to generate supposedly a response from the supernatural. There is only one post under kokkuri-san_(game) and several of the posts under ouija, but several posts under ouija depict kokkuri-san. Should these games be combined or separated?

If the plan is separation here are the technical details that divide the two games.

Kokkuri-san
  • Typically written on paper or similar, game is intended to be something that can be improvised
  • Characters are written in order by column and from right to left
  • Characters and numbers typically written evenly spaced, like if they were written on grid paper
  • Players use a coin to slide over the characters
  • Features a torii symbol in the top middle to serve as a gate for the supernatural
Ouija
  • Typically a wooden board
  • Letters are ordered from left to right and in rows
  • The row of letters are arched and not straight
  • Players use a planchette (small, usually heart-shaped flat piece of wood) to slide over the board
  • Features a "Goodbye" at the bottom
  • Usually features astral symbols in the four corners
